The Server Configuration Program
Function
Use the Server Configuration program to install Timebases on a Server. Dionex Service usually performs this task. Users need this program only seldom, for example, to change the instrument configuration. Users who only evaluate data do not have to be familiar with this program.
Starting the Server Configuration
Click Start > (All) Programs > Chromeleon > Server Configuration.
Caution:
It is only possible to modify the installation if the server to be configured is running (refer to Basic Operation Starting the Program in the User Help section) and if no sequences or samples are currently being processed.
When you open the Server Configuration for the first time or when you change an existing server configuration, this also influences the directory structure.
The Server Configuration Program
The user interface of the Server Configuration has two panes (see below). The left pane lists the names of all chromatography servers that are currently connected. The right pane logs the configuration process (Audit Trail).
A PC icon indicates that the server is connected; a red cross on the PC icon indicates that the server is not connected. A red prohibition sign (red circle with a white line) indicates that a server is active, e.g., processing samples.
Click the "+" character beside the server name to display the associated Timebases and Sharable Devices underneath. Click the "+" sign next to a timebase name to display the chromatography instruments (Devices) in this timebase. The information about the type and number of the components installed in a timebase and about their configuration is stored in the CMSERVER.CFG file, which is also called Server Configuration.
Instrument Installation/Configuration
Select Connect to Chromeleon Server on the Server menu to establish a connection to a specific server. Enter the computer name of the server and the protocol to use. As soon as the connection is established, the server name and symbol appear in the left window section.
For information about how to install and configure devices, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices.
If you open the Server Configuration program for the first time or if you add or rename a timebase, the directory structure of the Standard Datasource in the Chromeleon Client program is changed.
When Chromeleon is started for the first time, the system creates a local datasource called <PCNAME_local>, which is the Standard Datasource, by default.
The datasource provides a separate subdirectory for each timebase on the active server, in which the corresponding raw data is stored.
Under this subdirectory for the timebase, Chromeleon automatically creates an AUDIT folder in which the associated Daily Audit Trails are saved (For more information, refer to Data Management The Daily Audit Trail in the User Help section.)
Tip:
On the Advanced tab page of the server's properties, you can select a different datasource as the Standard Datasource. (Select Properties… on the context menu for the server and select a datasource from the Standard Datasource list box.)
In addition, Chromeleon creates a sequence called manual. The sequence contains one sample for manual data acquisition.
For more information about the server configuration, refer to Configuring the Chromeleon Server.
